Kupfert & Kim

Who's new years resolutions are to be healthier? I am guessing you, the last person you've talked to and maybe even their best friend. Basically, almost everyone (including me hehe).

Kupfert & Kim just opened a new location on Spadina, and will fulfill your healthy resolutions with in a beautiful little bowl.

K&K serves wheatless and meatless dishes at all their locations. They pride themselves on using the freshest ingredients from local farms.

With a new dine-in location, you are now able to sit down and enjoy your meal as opposed to getting take out (from a location in the PATH). It is perfect for dinner and for meals on the weekend! They are also looking to start serving gluten-free beer, and cider taps, as well as biodynamic wines.

The process:
You walk in, pick up a menu and order what you'd like from the cashier. They will give you a little number card that you will put on the table that you choose to sit at. When the food is ready, they will either call your number or they will bring the food to your table. It's rather simple.

Being a lover of smoothies, D and I both got a smoothie to start off our meal. I ordered the Blueberry smoothie made with organic blueberries, cashews, lemon, dates, organic vanilla, and flax.
D ordered the Green smoothie (a crowd pleaser) made with organic kale, organic banana, organic pear, lime, hemp seeds, ginger and mint.

Quickly, our food arrived. We each ordered a bowl, and was also persuaded by Daniel Suss (the co-founder of K&K) to also try their burger.

The Cauliflower Tahini -
organic quinoa, house-made hummus, roasted cauliflower, carrots, pickled onion, purple cabbage, beets, mint, organic arugula, radish, black sesame seeds, pomegranate seeds, za’atar salsa with spiced lemon tahini sauce

This was so delicious. The sauce was great, and all the ingredients went well together. My favourite bites were when I had a mouthful of veggies and then popped a couple pomegranate seeds heh.

Oaxaca -
brown rice (substituted for quinoa), black beans, organic kale, beets, non-GMO corn, daikon radish, hemp seeds, organic tortilla chips, lime wedge, with pico de gallo, cashew cream (not pictured), and guacamole

This was just like a healthy taco bowl!! So good. I personally would have wanted the cashew cream since it was a tad dry, but this was exactly how D liked his salads.

Chipotle Black Bean Burger -
black bean patty, organic romaine lettuce, pickled jalapeño with pico de gallo, guacamole, chipotle aioli and garlic cashew aioli with a side of sweet potato fries and a salad

Wowee, this was surprisingly good!! I really enjoyed eating this, but was very sad at how full I was from my bowl. I get that we technically had three people's worth of food for two people, but c'mon lol! I thought I could do it. Either way, this was delicious though and I would recommend ordering this if you wanted a vegan option for an open-face burger.

Overall, we both had an amazing visit. I'm so happy there is a sit-down location as all other K&K locations are a grab-and-go kind of set up that caters for the working class. And the lines are longggg, all the time! Situated in a busy intersection, it's a great spot to visit if you're ever feeling a little sluggish. Anything you get from K&K will make you feel healthier almost immediately ;)
