La Carnita

Visiting La Carnita on #TacoTuesday seemed like a pretty obvious choice in terms of a birthday celebration! (This is a pretty belated post - I came here early May when the second La Carnita recently opened.) We made reservations and we're so glad we did! It was already pretty packed when we got there, and even busier when we left.

Here is what we ordered:

Tortilla Chips with ancho chili powder (so good), and three dips - guacamole, corn salsa, & spicy bean and smoked queso

Avocado Mango Salad, with cilantro-lime dressing, queso fresco and pepitas

Mexican Street Corn, topped with crema, queso anejo, arbol and ancho chilli powder (the best thing ever!!!!)

I ordered the O.G. to drink, which was their version of a caesar. It was really good!

And then our tacos lol we got four In Cod We Trust tacos, which was cod, voltron sauce, lime crema, pickled red cabbage, green apple and cilantro.

This is the Pollo Frito taco, which is a crispy chicken thigh, peanut mole, hone, rossy's hot sauce, green cabbage and salsa fresca.

This is the Beef Cheek taco - ancho braised beef, lime avocado, green cabbage, pickled jalapeno and shallots, queso anejo, and charred pepper sauce.

For dessert, we got an order of their churros (with chocolate sauce at the bottom of that bin) and two of their apple pie popsicles.
La Carnita's desserts are made by a high-end dessert company called Sweet Jesus. They specialize in soft serve and paletas (popsicles). At La Carnita, they offer unique flavoured paletas that change randomly (while they serve their specialty soft serve ice cream at Home of The Brave), so it'll depend on what they have in stock when you go!

A portion of our spread for the night - a pretty sweet one, if you ask me!

Overall, we had a really good time here! We were tucked away at the back but it wasn't hard to get a servers attention. The food was pretty good, although I think the In Cod We Trust tacos were a bit over-hyped. It was just any other fish taco, in my opinion. However, the corn was unreal!!! It was so good. I would definitely recommend you to order it if you are skeptical. I will be back for sure!
